Event Overview: During this interactive video conference students will explore the amazing world of ants that live in their school grounds. Students will learn about the importance of ants, their features and habitats and how to safely collect them. During the VC students will meet a scientist, Dr Kirsti Abbott who explains her work with ants. Students will conduct an investigation in the grounds of their school prior to the VC. Data and collected samples of ants will be packaged and sent to a scientist at a university for identification. Data will be collated onto the School Of Ants database. Each school will share the results of their scientific investigation. Students will create a dramatic observational drawing of an ant. The VC will conclude with a fun quiz.

Booking Instructions:

Additional Booking Instructions: Botany Bay EEC will supply a Teacher Pack to support the VC with log in details. The Teacher Pack contains information needed to conduct a scientific investigation prior to the VC, post VC activities, useful links and resources $50.00 per camera. GST free event. The school will be invoiced prior to the VC. To allow for maximum interactivity, no more than 30 students per session. Concessional pricing for schools with less than 20 students. (Call the EEC for further details)

Further Information: Students could look for ants in the school grounds prior to the VC as they will be asked to give a short report on ants, including some interesting facts.Professional Learning: Teachers participating in the video conference can book in to the MyPL non-registered course, Bridgit and Video Conferencing training and refresher and receive credit for 2 hours. This course will be run prior to the VC to assist teachers in their operation of the video conference. It will also help teachers to test the current functionality of their equipment.
