Event Overview: Join the “Escape to EVERYWHERE” for a great start to CBCA Book Week 2017 as students from WALLSEND PS and WHALAN PS discuss the titles in the 2017 CBCA Short List for Younger Readers with guest author, Belinda Murrell. This will feature summaries of the books, input from our author, comments from dedicated readers, insight and special treasures from book characters, and a final announcement of all the CBCA Book Week category winners.

Our student reading teams will join Belinda in unpacking a suitcase full of writing treasures and sharing insights into her writing and personal reading favourites.

Belinda’s own books include: the Sun Sword trilogy; the Lulu Bell series; and the Time Slip series, which all create “believable characters that are as fascinating to talk about as real people.” Belinda will also share ideas from her latest series, Pippa’s Island. Her ideas come from “everywhere around me. Anything can spark the seed of an idea, which my imagination then grows into a story.”

This year’s CBCA Short List for Younger Readers includes hints of quirky historical links, a special horse, mythical ceremonies, dark magic, horrors of war, and a journey through nature.

Schools are invited to send through comments about the titles or to ask questions beforehand to be included in the interview with Belinda. You may also request guide questions for your readers to share. Please send these through beforehand to Jackie by Monday, August 14 via email - jackie.hawkes7@gmail.com .

Participating schools will also be involved in voting for their personal favourites of the short listed titles. The program will end with the overall announcement of the CBCA judges’ list of winning and honour books at 12 noon.
