Event Overview: ABOUT THE PRESENTATION
Language is a powerful tool — it can shape the way we think, it can influence the way we behave, and it can change the way we see the world around us. In this lecture we shall look at how and why language has this power, how it can help us to understand ourselves better, and how we can use it to change the world we live in. We shall look at such topics as sound symbolism, euphemism, and core meanings before examining how they influence political debate, advertising, and our perceptions of ourselves.
