This excursion is for the students involved in the Arts Unit Home Program. A member of the Wiradjuri and Kamilaroi nations of south-east Australia, Sydney-based Aboriginal artist Jonathan Jones (born 1978) works across a range of mediums, from printmaking and drawing to sculpture and film. Jonathan often uses everyday materials, such as fluorescent lights, timber and natural elements including shells, plants and seeds, in his practice. He recycles and repurposes these to explore relationships between community and the individual, the personal and public, historical and contemporary. At the heart of Jonathan's practice is the act of collaborating, this event gives students and teachers participating in the 2018 Home program the opportunity to work with a professional artist in the creation of a collaborative artwork in their own school.
